Desert Landscapes as Creative Language
The Rachel Craven Textiles Summer ’18 collection was shaped by the forms, colors, and textures of the Californian desert. Shot at the Cal Earth Institute in Joshua Tree and the Noah Purifoy Outdoor Desert Art Museum, the imagery reflects a deep respect for handmade environments and experimental structures.
Rather than following trend cycles, the work focused on materiality and intention — allowing fabric, silhouette, and setting to guide the story.
What Defined Rachel Craven Textiles
Textile-forward design with an artistic sensibility
Inspiration drawn from environmental sculpture and outsider art
Natural tones influenced by desert light and terrain
A slow, considered approach to making
These pieces were created to feel lived-in and lasting, prioritizing expression over excess.
Rachel Craven Textiles in the YUCCA Archive
At YUCCA, we continue to honor designers whose work shaped our perspective. Though Rachel Craven Textiles is no longer in business, the Summer ’18 collection remains part of our journal archive — preserved as a reflection of the brand’s creative integrity and connection to place.
This entry stands as an editorial record of a designer we deeply respected and were proud to support.
